COINJOCK,NC (or as John has pronounced it all day....KOJACK)

Another long day on the water....85 miles! We wanted to get ahead of the wind again, as we crossed Albemarle Sound. It has a very nasty reputation . Turns out, it was OK, but the crap traps were everywhere. We had to be on high alert.
BTW, we were out in the middle of nowhere, so no phone or "words with friends" on my smartphone :-(

We had complained before about how closely marinas dock other boats to each other.....well here we are again. Boats docked stem to stern. This is the view off our stern. Their anchor is less than 6 " from our boat.
Every day we learn more. Our brains are tired when we go to bed at night.

  1. Wendy, we are taking the dismal swamp route, so we're in Elizabeth City tonight. Anchored out the night before, just before crossing Albemarle. So close! We also found the sound easy except for those *#%@! crabtraps. See you in Portsmouth/Norfolk maybe?

  2. Glad to see you are underway. We just got back from the annual downcaoast adventure...and I use that term literally! Morning one we were an hour out of Harborwalk when the serpentine belt gave up the ghost. Had a 20+ mile tow to Freeport Municipal Marina. Thankfully we have unlimited towing or we would have had a $1275 bill! Found a mechanic by referral and he was able to get us fixed up by noon the next day. Luckily there is a stocking Cummins dealer in downtown Freeport and Cummins 5.9 engines have a reputation for being able to handle overheating. We are having Cummins down tomorrow to have a look see and make sure nothing got warped or is leaking CO.

We wanted to stop at the Army Hole on the way back, but the generator shut down and after cleaning the strainer it still would not run, so I suspect the impeller needs replacing and it was too hot for me to do it....so Cummins will take a look at that as well.

I know you are going to love it when you get up to the Chesapeake. When you are in St. Michael's MD stop in at the St. Michael's winery. They sell a T-shirt that says "Get Wobbly!" They also make a chocolate zinfandel that is wonderful.
